According to local sources, on October 23, during the Jumu'ah khutbah, Khatib Maulana Mujahidul Islam discussed the 'history and heritage of idols and sculptures and the salvation of Muslims from them'. At this time, while drawing the context of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's sculpture, he commented on the genocidal former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a 'tyrant'. Later, following this statement, the president of the mosque committee, Ferdous Bhuiyan, exempted him from his duties.
